Abstract

Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a multifactorial clinical condition characterized by elevated and sustained levels of blood pressure - BP (BP = 140 x 90 mmHg). The aim of this study was to describe the quality of life profile of hypertensive patients, attended by a Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Caxias-MA. This is a descriptive and open intervention study, with a quantitative approach. Patients diagnosed with SAH who were users of the BHU and who volunteered to participate in the study were included. Those who did not accept to participate in the project and those with severe neurological impairment that prevented them from participating in the lectures and responses to the forms were excluded. It was possible to interview 76 hypertensive patients, among them, 54 (71.05%) female and 22 (28.95%) male, with a predominance in the age group of 51 to 70 years old and average of 63 years old. Through the Spanish Short Formof Qualityof Life Questionnaire for Arterial Hypertension (Minichal), the present study sought to understand how SAH affects the patient's daily life. The latter assessed mental status, somatic manifestations and hypertension and treatment. From the observation period at the BHU in the Trizidela neighborhood, it was possible to identify factors influencing the limitation of adequate self-care. In addition, the application of educational lectures effectively contributes to the reduction of limitations, as well as opens space for the solidification of the bond between the participants and the project members and even improves adherence to drug treatment.
