Abstract

The article presents information about the U.S. health safety measures. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing to cut workers' acceptable exposure level to hexavalent chromium, a heavy metal found in some construction materials. Mechanical workers, particularly those welding or thermal-cutting stainless steel pipe, can suffer from lung cancer and other severe ailments. A Republican-Democratic dispute on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has halted progress on two big federal building projects.
