Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to analyze the backward-bending Phillips curve, which was brought to the literature within the framework of the Post-Keynesian approach, for the period 1995Q1-2021Q2, using the NARDL technique in the example of the Norwegian economy, which has institutional labor market characteristics. The findings show that there is a non-linear cointegration relationship between the unemployment rate and the inflation rate in the examined period in Norway, and that the backward-bending Phillips Curve assumption, is valid in the short run. This principal finding reveals that the response of unemployment rate to inflation changes is asymmetric in the short run in the Norwegian economy, where both sides of the labor market actors are strong.
