Abstract

At the present, the phenomenon of animal domestication is considered as an adaptive process of the population of some species to anthropogenic environments, as a product of the decrease in endocrine activity, especially of adrenaline, and stimulated by less competition and predation. In the case of Mesoamerica, two cases studied through archaeozoology, and stable isotopes are presented and analyzed, the results allow them to be located as protodomestic organisms that entered this process due to their progressive adaptation to the environment of the Mesoamerican cultivation system, the milpa. According to the bases of this new domestication model, a list of species is proposed that, through their adaptation to the milpa environment, reached a domestic and protodomestic status.
