Abstract

• The filler matrix/cBN abrasive coating was prepared using vacuum brazing. • The interfacial products TiN/TiB 2 /TiB were formed on the surface of cBN. • The filler matrix consisted of Ti 2 Ni, eutectic (Ti,Zr) 2 (Ni,Cu) and eutectoid. In order to maintain tight tolerance of aero-engine and reduce the risk of titanium fire, a filler matrix/cBN abrasive coating for blade tip of titanium alloy was prepared using vacuum brazing. The results revealed that the interfacial reaction products TiN/TiB 2 /TiB with interatomic bonding were formed between cBN particles and the filler matrix. Moreover, the filler matrix was composed of Ti 2 Ni, (Ti,Zr) 2 (Ni,Cu) and a small amount of lamellar eutectoid. The detailed analysis on the microstructure may provide novel insights into improving the wear resistance and burning resistance of the abrasive coating. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
