Abstract

During the operation of water control project, the scour funnel will be formed in front of the dam when the water release structure releases water. The shape, size and vertical and horizontal slope of the funnel are of great significance for the clearance of the front of the orifice gate of the dam power station. In this paper, a model test study on the funnel shape in front of a dam of a reservoir in the Yellow River was carried out, and the funnel shape, vertical and horizontal slope changes and characteristics of sediment discharge bottom outlet under two different operation modes of scouring and silting were summarized, so as to put forward the most reasonable operation scheme for effectively preventing the silt blocking in front of the sediment discharge inlet and realizing the cleaning in front of the power generation intake gate. Comparing with other existing test results, it shows that the test results are reasonable and reliable. Considering the balance of scour and siltation in front of the dam and the normal operation of desilting tunnel, the shape and scope of the scour funnel in front of the dam formed by the model test are conservative and the slope of the funnel is steeper than that of the prototype observation value.
