We know that ET can improve the outcomes of neonates with severe hyperbilirubinemia, and once the ET indication is reached, ET should be administered as early as possible. [2][6][7] Even though much progress has been achieved in hyperbilirubinemia screening and different treatment strategies, such as increased use of phototherapy, intravenous infusion of immunoglobulin, and exchange transfusion (ET), there are still reports of newly diagnosed ABE and kernicterus cases in different areas of the world, especially in developing countries.
