Abstract

The share of electric vehicles in the commercial vehicle sector is still low, but the obstacles on the path to a successful transition are becoming increasingly clear. Various electric vehicles were presented at the IFAT trade fair, including the Trombia sweeping robot and the fully electric eEconic truck from Mercedes. Bucher Municipal also presented the fully electric compact sweeper CityCat VR50e. The electrification of commercial vehicles is growing due to stricter rules and regulations in the EU and North America. The IAA Transportation in Hannover will address the topic of the transportation transition and involve new partners such as trade associations, delivery services, and energy providers. Volvo Trucks is vigorously driving the electrification and offers battery-electric vehicles in all model ranges. The article deals with the challenge of energy supply for municipal and commercial vehicles. Volvo Trucks offers its customers charging strategy solutions to meet the energy demand during working hours. It is pointed out that electrification is not possible for all tasks, as the energy demand of some devices is too high. Therefore, alternative drive solutions are being considered. Hydraulic systems continue to be used for tasks that require a lot of power. Manufacturers are working on finding meaningful solutions for various use cases and reducing fuel consumption during operation. [Extracted from the article]
