Abstract

This paper aims to study the combined effects of incident wave angularity and geometrical characteristics on the seismic spectral response of curved valleys filled with alluvium. The parametric studies were carried out using a numerical tool, called HYBRID, which combines the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM) to model the near field and far field, respectively. Some criteria were provided considering the coupled effects of wave incident angles, and topographical and geometrical characteristics on the seismic site response. This will help engineers in assessing the soil-structure interaction problems in alluvial valleys. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
