Abstract
- When clinically administering the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition (WISC-IV), it is necessary to consider the ecological factors of a child, such as their test-taking behaviors, living environment, and developmental history, to ensure its comprehensive interpretation. In this study, a three-dimensional assessment model that includes the WISC-IV index scores, test-taking behaviors, and developmental disorder traits is examined through an analysis of our clinical samples. Our path analysis indicated the compatibility of the three-dimensional assessment model in its clinical utility. The relationships between the index scores, test-taking behaviors, and developmental disorder traits were also revealed in the study. In particular, it was found the Processing Speed Index was related to impaired set-shifting, which is a trait of children with ASD, while Working Memory Index is not related to attention deficit, a trait of children with ADHD/ADD. These results may provide practitioners with a new perspective on the interpretation of the WISC-IV scores and test-taking behaviors. We further discuss the clinical utility and limitations of this assessment model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
