Abstract

The study examines the measurement methods for determining nano and non-nano materials in sun protection products. It is found that Tier-1 methods such as AF4 are not able to detect particles in agglomerates. Therefore, a Tier-2 method such as TEM is required to confirm the non-nano properties of a material. The study uses the decision support scheme of the NanoDefine project to analyze the particle size distribution of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide types. It emphasizes that the correct determination of nano and non-nano materials is crucial for the approval of sun protection products. [Extracted from the article]
