Abstract

The consolidation and hegemony of Calvinism in the Synod of Dordt helped the Reformed churches to advance in missionary activity around the world since the seventeenth century. The Canons of Dordt brought theological safety and renewed motivation for the Reformed faith to be taken into the pagan world. The results following the great Synod that marked the victory of Calvinism showed an increase in the missionary zeal by the Reformed churches. The establishment of the Seminarium Indicum to specifically train new missionaries, the first Protestant missiology by Gisbertus Voetius, and the significant surge in numbers of workers in the mission fields across the colonies including Brazil are some of the legacies from Dordt.
