Abstract

Natural non-metallic minerals are mainly composed of silicate minerals with natural nanoscale layered, porous or fibrous structures, and possess multiple physical and chemical characteristics, such as favorable adsorption capacity, colloidal properly, and ion exchange ability. Natural non-metallic mineral could promote growth performance, protect intestinal health, and improve the quality of products when supplemented into animal feed. Moreover, the administration of non-metallic mineral has potentials to inhibit the pathogenic microorganisms, reduce the transmission of drug resistance genes, and remediate the soil. In this paper, the prope1iies of several non-metallic minerals were introduced, including palygorskite, zeolite and montmorillonite. Meanwhile, the application progresses of dietary non-metallic mineral were emphatically reviewed,and its research frontiers and development prospects in feed were discussed. This review would provide references and insights for the application of dietary non-metallic minerals and health husbandry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
