Von Einfachheit zu Komplexität: Die Entwicklung meines Denkens über Psychotherapie.

From personal experience in psychotherapy and supervision and on the basis of research outcome it is hypothesized that psychotherapy must attain a more complex level of theory and practice conceptualization in order to optimally serve clients. To achieve an effective treatment of psychologically complex problems such as personality disorders and to provide clients with solutions solving highly complex, existentially relevant problems, more elaborate models and strategies should be formulated that also reflect the broad range of psychological research. Psychotherapy on the one hand should develop valid and encompassing models, but should moreover be highly differentiated with a view to taking into account the heterogeneity of clients. For this purpose, it will not be enough to solely rely on »diagnoses«, but therapists should rather establish elaborate models (case conceptions) on the basis of a high degree of expertise and use these to derive therapeutic strategies. Psychotherapy processes should be given greater attention, and it is to be asked whether chaos and systems theory considerations should not be systematically adopted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
