Abstract

The prevalence of scabies is increasing in Europe and Spain, possibly due to the pandemic. During the first quarter of 2022, 28 outbreaks of scabies have been reported in Barcelona. Scabies is an infestation caused by the parasite Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis and is exclusively transmitted between humans through intimate contact. Diagnosis is made clinically, but dermatoscopy can be useful in detecting characteristic mite burrows. First-line treatment includes topical permethrin, oral ivermectin, or topical benzyl benzoate.
