Abstract

The article relates the concepts of community library and the right to information, from the perspective of Librarianship. The work also discusses how the library and the right to information can be intertwined in the daily life of peripheral communities. It is an applied research, with an exploratory character and a qualitative approach; the theoretical research method was the bibliographic survey and the empirical research used a survey, with application of an online questionnaire and subsequent interpretation of data through content analysis. The results show how the community library and the right to information are interconnected in the daily activities of libraries and how it is possible to apply and act with the right to information in communities marked by socioeconomic vulnerability. From the research, it was concluded that librarians should act as translators of complex public information marked by legal language for an accessible language, providing opportunities for the subjects' right to understand and with this informational mediation it is possible to encourage a critical reading of the reality.
