Abstract

Much of the success of breastfeeding resides in care at the time of birth. The focus is on hospitals where births take place to support mothers in breastfeeding, encouraging mother-infant skin-to-skin contact soon after birth. To explore the impact of skin-to-skin contact in the scientific literature on successful breastfeeding in healthy term newborns. Search in databases: CINAHL, Medline and Pubmed, descriptors in English: Infant, Newborn; Newborn; Term Birth; Premature Birth; Preterm Infant; Neonatal Intensive Care Units; Breastfeeding; Skin-to-Skin Contact. Skin-to-skin contact is a determining factor in the newborn's adaptation to extrauterine life. The importance of skin-to-skin contact and its association with breastfeeding is evident, with 2 categories: early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. Skin-to-skin contact is essential for early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
