Abstract
- Much of the success of breastfeeding resides in care at the time of birth. The focus is on hospitals where births take place to support mothers in breastfeeding, encouraging mother-infant skin-to-skin contact soon after birth. To explore the impact of skin-to-skin contact in the scientific literature on successful breastfeeding in healthy term newborns. Search in databases: CINAHL, Medline and Pubmed, descriptors in English: Infant, Newborn; Newborn; Term Birth; Premature Birth; Preterm Infant; Neonatal Intensive Care Units; Breastfeeding; Skin-to-Skin Contact. Skin-to-skin contact is a determining factor in the newborn's adaptation to extrauterine life. The importance of skin-to-skin contact and its association with breastfeeding is evident, with 2 categories: early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. Skin-to-skin contact is essential for early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
