Abstract
- Introduction: The type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity are diseases that affect millions of people worldwide. For this purpose, functional foods such as palm oil and glutamine provide dietary strategies for the control of metabolic diseases. Objective: To evaluate the influence of ileal release palm oil and glutamine on the immune function of type 2 diabetic and obese. Material and methods: Participants were divided into three groups, Obese, Type 2 Diabetic Overweight and Diabetic Type 2 Obese, instructed to take one capsule ilealrelease palm oil (OP-LI) and one capsule ilealrelease glutamine (GLU-LI), three times a day, before main meals for two months. Results: A significant decrease in resistin was observed in the group of obese type 2 diabetic patients, between times T0 (before) and T2 (after 2 months of ingestion of the ileal release capsules), with values 15026.43 pg/mL to 8214.31 pg/mL (p=0,0271). Significant results with p<0.05 were considered. Discussion: Activation of immune cells in obesity and type 2 diabetes is an important factor in the development of inflammation, and one of the strategies adopted to mitigate this state, is the intake of functional foods like palm oil and glutamine in a balanced diet. Conclusion: Palm oil and glutamine supplementation significantly decreased resistin levels in type 2 obese diabetic patients, in patient's follow-up of the Ambulatory Health Services of HC-UFTM.
