Abstract
- Slip transmission between neighbouring grains is needed for the occurrence of plastic deformation in polycrystals. A geometric factor defined for a pair of grains with a certain orientation relationship is used to determine the slip transmission. Two slip transmission factors are calculated for randomly oriented grains. One is the slip transmission factor averaged for randomly oriented grains and the other is the minimum of the transmission factors among all possible orientation relationships. The possible number of slip systems in a grain varies for different metals and alloys. The effects of the number of slip systems on the transmission factors are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
