Abstract

The article addresses the need to decolonize and rebuild healthcare systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. It criticizes the reproduction of a constant coloniality of power and healthcare knowledge in the region, as well as the importation of theories and policies from the global North. The need to problematize and deconstruct the dominant Eurocentric Pan-American categorical framework is proposed, and categories for the rebuilding and decolonization of healthcare systems in the 21st century are suggested. The importance of integrating the public sphere and new organizational architectures for the universalization of collective, comprehensive, and interdependent goods is highlighted. A revision of the logic of primary healthcare is proposed, emphasizing comprehensive health care and well-being, as well as the territory and territorialities of collective ways of life. The need for an epistemology of rebuilding healthcare systems and public policies to achieve effective health sovereignty in the region is also discussed. [Extracted from the article]
