Abstract
- The book "Other Worlds, Other Technologies. African Adventures of an Anthropologist" by Mercedes Montero Bartolomé compiles her research in rural communities in Spain and Africa, combining theoretical and methodological reflections with vivid descriptions of the communities and fieldwork accounts. It focuses on interculturality and the social construction of technological phenomena, being of interest to academics, anthropology students, and professionals in social intervention in rural communities and the implementation of technological innovations. The book addresses the relationship between technology and society from an anthropological perspective, exploring the processes of technological innovation and how they are influenced by economic, political, gender, and belief factors. The impact of photovoltaic solar energy on power relations between men and women in a studied community is highlighted, as well as the importance of considering social and cultural factors in rural electrification projects with solar energy. In conclusion, the text emphasizes the importance of anthropology in understanding contemporary societies and promoting more democratic and diverse identities. [Extracted from the article]
