The characteristics and development process of white-rot fungi are introduced, and the present status of wastewater produced in various typical industries are expounded. White-rot fungi are increasingly used in bioremediation due to their unique and efficient lignin-degrading ability. The degradation mechanisms of organic pollutants by white-rot fungi are introduced in detail. The treatment for certain typical industrial wastewaters by white-rot fungi are reviewed, which contained printing and dyeing, papermaking, pesticide, and medical wastewater treatment. Furthermore, some problems and directions of future research in organic wastewater treatment by white-rot fungi are documented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
