Competências do profissional da informação nos Arquivos Públicos do Rio Grande do Sul e de Santa Catarina.

This article analyzes the competencies of information professionals in the Public Archives of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, Brazil. Methodologically, the research is an applied study, with mixed methods, according to the objectives it is descriptive and regarding the procedures used it is a case study. The data collection was fulfilled out through the application of a questionnaire to professionals from public archives and the competencies were systematized based on the Euro-Referential I-D developed by European Council of Information Associations. The results indicate that the competencies considered most relevant by these professionals were: research and information retrieval, physical treatment of documents, relationships with users, among others. It concludes that public archives are an important source of information in order to guarantee fundamental rights, recognition of history and transparency of State actions. Universities need to offer education according to reality and graduates must seek continuous training and act to strengthen the area through participation in associations, councils and unions.
