Abstract
- In this article, the author analyzes the place "the woman", a discursive and essential formation, occupies in some extracts from the works of Freud and Lacan. From the single-sex model, as conceived by Thomas Laqueur, it is attempted to demonstrate that, in many moments, psychoanalysis operated in a single-sex paradigm, despite the apparent centrality of the concept of sexual difference in its theories. Based on central texts by Freud and Lacan, notably those that deal with a supposed sexual difference, the author concludes that there is a phallus norm in their theories. It is proposed that the importance given to the phallic element prevents psychoanalysis from thinking about other forms of subjectivity, in which the phallus (anatomical or symbolic) is not so central. Considering this phallus norm of Julia Kristeva and Judith Butler's contributions on abjection are used to think about the fabrication of the female gender as an abject in psychoanalytic theory. It is understood that a non-critical reading of Freud and Lacan produces and reinforces a division between subjects and abject under the phallic norm. It is maintained that a subjectivity thought by the lack of the phallus keeps "the woman" in a place of nonexistence and, even abjection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
