Abstract

To establish the relationship between static balance and anthropometric and baropodometric variables in young speed skaters. Material and method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study with correlational scope was developed. Fifty-eight young skaters, between 11 and 15 years old, were evaluated, the majority women, 55 % of distance modality and 45 % of speed. Static balance was assessed with the Romberg Index, the type of foot and the percentage of support surface of the entire foot, forefoot, midfoot and hindfoot; as well as body mass index and lower limbs length. Correspondence and homogeneity tests were carried out. Results: no statistically significant associations were found between static balance and seniority in skating, BMI, lower limbs length and support surface (total, forefoot, midfoot or hindfoot) (p > 0.05). Conclusions: most of the skaters showed altered static balance. Almost all of them showed asymmetry between lower limbs. greater support was observed in the hindfoot, the predominant type of foot was that of “very high arch”. Asymmetry in the type of feet was found in 41 % of the skaters. No statistically significant associations were found between static balance with sports, anthropometric or baropodometric variables in young cart skaters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
