Explains the nineteenth-century North American Manufacturing Belt as a series of regional industrial systems. Analysis of the supply linkages of two 1870s manufacturers revealing disintegrated supply networks within the belt; Creation of network of suppliers by industries; Metropolitan centers' failure to dominate linkage behavior.
