Abstract

The article presents a tribute to Professor Javier Hervada Xiberta, a prominent philosopher and jurist of Law. His contribution to the study of practical philosophy and his original approach to realistic natural law are highlighted. In addition, his dedication to teaching and supervising doctoral theses is mentioned, as well as his admiration for the university and his enthusiasm for its future. The tribute has been reflected in issues 86 and 87 of the journal Persona y Derecho, which contain research on Hervada's philosophical-juridical thought and papers on topics of academic interest to the professor. The papers address topics such as the influence of Thomas Aquinas on his work, the foundations of classical legal realism, the concept of the common good, human nature and purpose, prudential judgment, institutional and hierarchical principle, and the relationship between law and justice. His contributions to classical legal realism, his approach to the relationship between natural law and positive law, his conception of implicit rights, and his criticism of the idea that law is solely an object of the virtue of justice are also explored. Additionally, topics such as the arms race and current challenges to human dignity in Law and Politics are addressed. The tribute concludes with testimonies from people close to Hervada, who highlight his dedication to truth and service to others. [Extracted from the article]
