Comics are closely related to literature and the visual arts. However they are an independent art form. The aim of this article is to use selected examples to show how visual storytelling functions and especially what reception requirements they afford. At the same time the content of the selected comics opens up a perspective on the visual arts, its significance, its development, its possibilities of effect and meaning. Teaching methods accompany the reviewed comics and offer suggestions for practical follow-up activities – from elementary to secondary school. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
