Wishing I Weren't Here: Therapeutic Engagements with Disembodied States.

This article offers two clinical vignettes to illustrate the use of somatic receptivity and interventions in the bodily-based psychotherapy of patients experiencing severe levels of disembodiment. Drawing upon the work of Lombardi, Alvarez, and Bucci, the author stresses the therapist's primary attention to the mind-body splits (the vertical axis), in contrast to interpersonal/transference interpretations (the horizontal axis), in the treatment of chronic disembodied defenses.
