Abstract

When the studies in the area of linguistics in our country are investigated, it is seen that there are some discussions especially on syntax. Despite the increase in the studies on syntax in recent years, the fact that many issues are still being debated among themselves may cause confusion for researchers working in this area. In this study, the novel “Katre-i Matem” by Iskender Pala, one of the most important novelists of recent Turkish literature, has been examined in terms of sentences according to their structures, based on linguistics. At this study, it is intented analyze the novel “Katre-i Matem” by İskender Pala which has not been examined in terms of syntax before, and to contribute to the increasing syntax studies in recent years. In the introductory part of the study, it has been tried to determine the approaches of the researchers working in the field of syntax regarding the classification of the sentence in terms of structure. When the approach of the researchers was examined, it was determined that there was no common opinion on the classification of the sentence in terms of structure. In this study, the classification model according to the structures taken as a basis has been tried to be explained with sample sentences selected from our review text and the page and line numbers that reflect the relevant title in the most accurate way. In the conclusion part of the study, the findings determined were evaluated in general terms. In the last part of the study, sentences were assessmented according to their structures based on the text, and it was determined that; the sentences formed with the question preposition ‘mi’ were used in a limited number, the sequential sentences based on subject and predicate partnership are more preferred than other sequential sentences, and also in simple sentences, regular sentences are used more than inverted sentences.
