Abstract

To determine the roll angle of an aircraft according to a passive polarization-anisotropic radar corner reflector with horizontal natural polarization, probing signals are used that are polarization-modulated with respect to the orientation angle of the polarization plane. The aircraft roll angle is estimated at the receiver output using the phase of the spectral component at the double frequency of rotation of the polarization plane of the emitted signals that are contained in the spectrum of the envelope of received signals. A prototype of an experimental setup that implements this method is described. The experimental results of measuring the roll angle of the aircraft are presented. The root-mean-square error in measuring the roll angle was 0.98°. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
