Abstract

A novel continuous rapid thermal nucleation method was proposed to prepare hydrolysis seed crystal. The hydrolysis activity, particle size distribution, rutile crystal transformation and pigment properties of the seed were systematically investigated. The results show that the continuous rapid thermal nucleation seed exhibit high hydrolysis activity (reaching 96% with 2% seed addition). The obtained metatitanic acid presents a smaller particle size and more uniform distribution. Moreover, the rutile transformation properties of metatitanic acid from continuous rapid thermal nucleation seed is better without calcined seed. The addition of calcined seed can significantly improve the pigment properties of titanium dioxide product. In order to meet the practical application in the factory, a new shell-tube seed preparation reactor was designed by using Aspen EDR, and the corresponding hydrolysis process was optimized and redesigned.
