Abstract

Today, teachers are often encouraged to vary the activities and therefore to use group work with students. Working in a group is not an easy task for students, but it can be learned. The place of group work, both in official national education bulletins and in educational theories, is already showing its importance. France and Iran have integrated collaborative systems within the educational structure. We will base our research on the comparison of these two educational systems. To understand the effectiveness of group work in elementary school, we set up questionnaires to find out whether group work is more effective than individual work in language learning. By analyzing the students' responses, on the one hand, we find that most students hear that they are often comfortable in group work. On the other hand, we have found that groups do not always lead to better performance than the individual work. Our research has enabled us to understand that group work requires a lot of thought, preparation, rigor, and attention. In other words, despite the great interest on the part of the students that have been observed, group work cannot be considered the only form of work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
