Abstract

By using metrics to improve employee productivity, the world is shifting toward Evidence Based Decision Making in all fields. With the rapid advancement of information technology, businesses are increasingly turning to quantitative decision-making, including in areas such as human resources, which previously relied heavily on qualitative decision-making. A number of research studies indicate that metrics-based decision making is essential for successful workforce management. This paper presents the authors' experiences through a fascinating case study conducted in a medium-sized manufacturing enterprise (MSME) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. This study uses qualitative approach. The owner, production manager and HR manager were interviewed and success factors were arrived. Then appropriate KPIs were identified. The focus of the study was to develop a handy metric model to help HR executives in their decision process. The model was arrived after a two-stage process. Initially, based on the literature backup and relevancy to the industry, a set of KPIs and appropriate HR metrics were identified. This article has thrown light on how evidence-based decision making by leveraging 'metrics' can be carried out for measuring workforce effectiveness and leads to take consistent human performance decisions. It also assists HR professionals in implementing and measuring the efficacy of HR roles in their organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
