Abstract
- Graph: Vanessa L. Jacoby, MD, MAS Graph: George Sawaya, MD The pendulum continues to swing for the practice of elective oophorectomy at the time of hysterectomy for benign gynecologic conditions. A revised Markov model evaluating oophorectomy at the time of benign hysterectomy: age 65 years revisited. Rush et al conclude that oophorectomy at the time of hysterectomy for women aged 50 years or older results in a similar mortality rate by age 80 as hysterectomy with ovarian retention.
