Abstract

A simulation of the aerodynamic features of the vehicle has been carried out. The analysis was carried out to determine the impact of various design features on the drag force and lift force acting on the vehicle. A scaled prototype of a hatchback car (Skoda FABIA) was used as a base model. The geometric model of the hatchback car was created in Onshape, an online product development platform using a surface modeling technique. The selected design features of the car were modified to improve the drag and increase downforcewhich acts on the vehicle. Asimulation for vehicle aerodynamics was performed in AnsysFluentsoftware to compare the drag, liftcoefficientinthe case of the base model and the modified model. The simulation results indicate that adding roof contours to the model and changing some turbulence reducing shapes such as dimensions alongwiththewindshield, front, and rear bumper heightnotablyreduced the amount of drag acting on the vehicle.
