Abstract

In this paper, it is analyzed how territorial marginalization affects water distribution in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico. Making irreversible damage, the water supply has been obtained by the exploitation of the Mexico Valley aquifers. This research establishes that the water distribution has been prioritized for the center of the country: Mexico City. The shortage of water and socio-environmental problems in the Mexico State are magnifying due to the unfair water distribution with the suburbs even though the population growth increases rapidly in the area. The objective is to describe, by primary documentary sources, how territory influences the water distribution while analyzing the governmental and citizen intervention for improving this situation. In the end, we discuss some viable proposals to lead to territorial sustainability and environmental justice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
