We recommend that the peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter be removed promptly in refractory peritonitis episodes according to the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of peritonitis. But the exact time of re-insertion of a new catheter after removal is still not well known. We report a case of successful treatment of relapsing combined with refractory peritonitis after simultaneous catheter removal and replacement, avoiding vascular access and related risks after a transition to hemodialysis. Depending on the diagnosis and treatment of this case, we could further enhance the understanding of relapsing and refractory peritonitis, and provide useful experience for the prevention and treatment of peritonitis [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
