Using text commentary as a research tool, configurations of authority in some passages of Freudian discourse are questioned and deconstructed. From hysterical questioning of medical authority to super-egoic tyranny, we find variants of transgressive subversion and positions of joyful servitude. A critical reading of the condition of the Ego oscillating between revolt and vassalage is undertaken. It is essential to problematize the Freudian episteme around issues such as the authorities of love, reality testing, narcissistic ideals, moral conscience and the Super-ego that cultivates specific ethics in women and communities.
