This article aims to analyze the potential use of the Paraguay River waterway using data envelopment analysis - DEA to verify the efficiency of possible alternative routes for transporting soybean cargo from the state of Mato Grosso for export compared to existing ones. The input-oriented BCC method was adopted, represented by the accident cost and CO2e emissions, and output, represented by the savings in both time and transportation cost. For the analysis, the study area was divided into four centroid cities, around the area of influence of the river under analysis, to which the model was applied. The results show that the waterway has potential for use in all poles, except in the Rondonópolis centroid, whose shorter distance between railroads gives it a better performance.
