Abstract

The factors affecting learning, which is defined as the change in behavior, are generally classified as factors related to the learner, factors related to learning strategies and methods, and factors related to learning material. Learning needs and learning strategies are also included in this classification and are shown among the basic elements that affect learning. This research was conducted to determine the mathematics lesson learning needs and learning strategies of eighth grade students and to evaluate the relationship between these two variables. The study group of the research, which was carried out using the general scanning model, consists of 301 eighth grade students studying at the secondary school affiliated to the Erzurum Palandöken and Tortum District National Education Directorate in the 2020-2021 academic year. The data of the research were obtained with the learning needs and learning strategies scales. The data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and correlation techniques using SPSS 24 and AMOS 24 package programs. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the eighth grade students were aware of their learning needs regarding the mathematics course, they used learning strategies above the average, and there was a positive, moderate and significant relationship between the need for learning and the use of learning strategies. Various recommendations have been presented in accordance with the results obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
