Abstract

A working group published good practice recommendations for acupuncture treatment in facial paralysis, combining data from the classic literature and expert consensus. The treatment takes into account the differentiation of the zheng. The patient's symptoms classically combine the appearance of the tongue with the characteristics of the pulse and aare grouped inti five zheng. This set makes it possible to distinguish four stages in the disease. The proposed treatment distinguishes five techniques: the threadlike needle, moxibustion, electro acupuncture, the use of the infrared lamp and facial massage. The main points are hegu (4LI) and local points; the secondary points are the points chosen according to the differentiation of the zheng. Applied early, acupuncture helps control progression of the disease, accelerate healing, relieve pain and reduce tearing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
