Abstract
- The article examines Søren Kierkegaard's diaries and their connection to the Protestant work ethic. The diaries demonstrate Kierkegaard's conception of his profession as a religious writer and can be classified within the tradition of pietistic diaries. Kierkegaard views writing as a calling and consciously advocates for the cause of Christianity. His high productivity and proud flaunting of the quantity of texts he produces are also seen as characteristics of ascetic Protestantism. Kierkegaard regards his works as the result of his labor and refers to them as "writings about myself." He leaves his material legacy to his former fiancée, Regine Olsen, while his literary estate is entrusted to the Royal Library in Copenhagen. [Extracted from the article]
