Abstract

The historical value of the broken -tailed bronze pig statue unearthed from Tomb 113 of Jinhou tomb in Beizhao village has not been fully explored. The short and upturned stump of the piglets indicates that the ancestors of the Zhou Dynasty mastered the advanced technology of cutting off piglets’ tails to prevent the castration infection. The unearthed pig statue provides physical evidence for the domestic pig emasculation in pre-Qin philology and later literature, making this world-leading domestic pig production technology more than one thousand years earlier than the written record in Qi Min Yao Shu. The artistic, cultural and historical values of this bronze ware are highly unified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
