Abstract
- As we will see, skill and luck are not incompatible in the way that undermine an epistemic probability account of luck, but the compossibility of the two still threatens the view. Hitting a game-winning hit to win a championship, by the best hitter of all time in baseball, is an example of skillful performance with a relatively low probability of success. As I see it, the diachronicity problem exploits different reference classes, comparing various streak possibilities with the intrinsic probability of a particular shot. Gregory Stoutenburg (forthcoming) responds to each of these arguments, and here I take up what I consider to be the deepest challenge for the probability account, the challenge concerning the relationship between skill and luck.
