Abstract
- Dental caries is the most widespread chronic disease in the world, most common in childhood, but it affects all ages throughout life. The objective of this study was to establish the epidemiological behavior of dental caries in children of the Centro de Desarrollo Integral la Gran Commission in the years 2014 - 2019. Quantitative descriptive study, in which the data from the years 2014-2019 was evaluated, of the dental care project, attended in the projects of Social Projection, of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad Evangélica de El Salvador. Results: the sex most affected by caries was male, the age with the highest DMF index was between 1 to 5 years. The DMF index in 2013 started with 4. 51, having an increase for 2015 reaching 8.1, falling to 7.7 and then remaining between 6.83 and 6.64 in the following years. The O'Leary index for 2014 was 80%, rising to 87% in 2016, then remaining between 79% and 76%. The strategies of promotion and education for health in oral hygiene should include maneuvers in changes of attitudes and practices in hygiene habits of the population since so many indices DMF, SIC and O'Leary were maintained high over 6 years of intervention in the community under study.
