Abstract

New method for fatigue verification of existing road bridges using monitoring data For road bridges, the fatigue verification based on Eurocode can be carried out in general with the simple fatigue load model ELM3 and the damage equivalence factors λi allowing to avoid using the complex fatigue load model ELM4, which consists of five vehicle types. However, this application is limited. For example, bridges with spans or influence lines outside the interval [10 m–80 m] cannot be verified. Furthermore, a fatigue verification based on monitoring is presented in order to calculate and evaluate the damage equivalence factor λ1 for the monitoring data. Based on the current fatigue verification according to Eurocode, this paper presents a method for fatigue verification using the vibration response of bridges. This method is developed in order to calculate the damage equivalence factor λ1 for all bridge spans as well as for all monitoring spectra without any limitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
