Abstract

Reproduced with permission B Hamilton hill b in Russell is a locality known for huge tremolite crystals but even more so for being the locality where the largest tourmaline (dravite) ever found in St. Lawrence County was recovered (Chamberlain [1]). The Hall farm is well known for fine tremolite crystals in a region that has many tremolite occurrences. Tremolite crystals found here are colorless to gray, lustrous, and often form epitactic overgrowths on diopside with alteration to talc, creating pseudomorphs after diopside. All specimen photographs by Michael R. Walter Tremolite, Ca SB 2 sb Mg SB 5 sb Si SB 8 sb O SB 22 sb (OH) SB 2 sb , is an important rock-forming mineral. [Extracted from the article]
