Abstract

This article analyzes the experiences of violence against black travestis due to machismo and transphobia in the context of the COVID19 pandemic. The methodology used included the use of cartography, by employing affective diaries that allow a dense dive in the territories, tracing a geography of violence against black travestis in the city of ParnaíbaPI. According to ANTRA data, black travestis represent on average 80% of cases of lethal transphobia in Brazil, which puts these bodies in the crosshairs of afronecrotransphobia. The pandemic process was seen to intensify the situation of the black travestis' precarious lives, since social isolation has made it difficult to enter and stay in the labor market. Another finding that should be highlighted is that 90% of trans women live from prostitution due to the reduced access, which was already limited, to social security institutions. In the geography of violence, affective diaries narrate two situations of sexist and transphobic violence, both against black travestis on public roads in the city of ParnaíbaPI. The victims sought support with the social worker of Acolhe Trans, a nongovernmental collective, which received them and directed to the complaint. However, both showed distrust in carrying out the procedures as a result of the impunity witnessed in cases of transphobia. In this sense, we reached the conclusion that, in a regime of afronecrotransphobia, the absence or difficulty of access to public policies produces violence and deaths of the transgender population, especially the black population.
