Abstract

Every Atonomous Community in Spain has promoted nature tourism and rural tourism in the villages furthest from the centers and axes of urban development as an economic activity that could replace traditional agro-livestock activities and that would halt emigration bleeding. However, the data analysis shows that many of these places have barely sparked the interest of potential visitors and that the return on investment is at least questionable. In this communication, the tourist supply and demand of the so-called Emptied Spain is analyzed, taking into account the sustainability in the process of transformation into a tourist destination and the territorial resilience of abandoned spaces, although ancient inhabitants had strong objective and subjective relations with those places.
